Galapagos Islands - May 2025

Definitely a bucketlist item, Galapagos did not dissapoint exactly, it just was not what I expected. My complete lack of research let me believe that I was going to see dozens of species, when really we didn't. Galapagos Penquins,  Blue-Footed Boobies, Nazca (or Masked) Boobies, Flightless Cormorants, Frigatebirds, Brown Pelicans, Oyster Catcher, Lava Gulls, Galápagos Hawks, Galápagos Mockingbirds, Marine Iguanas, Galápagos Giant Tortoises, Galápagos Land Iguanas, Galápagos Green Turtles, Galápagos Sea Lions, Galápagos Fur Seals, and my alltime favorite, the Sally Lightfoot Crabs.

We saw each of these many times, but for whatever reason I had expected more. There are other species not listed here since I did not see them, but not many. Again, I was not dissapointed, just surprised due to my lack of knowledge. Listing them all there makes it seem like there were more than I even remember.

The Galapagos Islands themselves were spectacular as a whole. Volcanic activity just spit them out. Some are incredibly young being just 500,000 years old.

It was a great trip. Trevor and Keenan were our photo guides and we had a naturalist on board to help educate us. Wendy and I both tried snorkeling a couple of times, but it did not become the defining moment in my life as predicted. I'm just too uncomfortable in the water, and I was ready to get back out after a short period.
