In April, Osprey are nesting and Osprey chicks are hatching. There are said to be 350 nesting pairs of Osprey on the lake. I didn’t count, but I believe it. In addition to the Osprey, there is an abundance of other birds. This trip was with Mark Smith. He always puts together a group of nice people.
The Caracara shots were taken on the same trip as Blue Cypress Lake but I took these while in Kissimmee Florida fishing for bream with Jimmy Hammitt and Lindsay Simms.
Lindsay and I were headed out to the tackle store which was about a 20 minute trip, one way. On the way I noticed two large birds sitting on the fence by the road leading out of Grape Hammock Fish Camp. On our return, I slowed down in the area where I had spotted the birds, and there they were, almost an hour later as if they had known to wait on me.
I jumped out and grabbed the camera with the 200-600 zoom lens and these were the result.
Lindsay tentatively identified them as Crested Caracaras. I knew as soon as he said it that he was correct even though I had never seen one in person before.
